In this position paper, I introduce “Eternal Inference” – a framework for creating AI systems with persistent awareness through biomimetic memory management. Rather than AI systems that only “exist” during active processing, I’m exploring how we can develop systems with continuous consciousness, inspired by human cognition.
The framework proposes a three-tier memory architecture with dynamic sleep cycles, achieving up to 90% compression while maintaining semantic relationships. Think of how human memory works: we have immediate recall, short-term memory, and long-term storage, all managed through sleep cycles that help consolidate and organize information.
Over the next few months, I’ll be diving deep into implementing this architecture, focusing on:
- Biologically-inspired memory consolidation
- Dynamic resource management through sleep states
- Ethical considerations in persistent AI awareness
- Applications in personal AI assistance and knowledge preservation
If you’re interested in AI architecture, cognitive science, or the intersection of neuroscience and machine learning, I’d love to connect and discuss these ideas. This is just the beginning of what I hope will be an exciting journey into the future of persistent AI systems.
